Product Overview
The Enphase IQ8X Microinverter (IQ8X-80-M-US) is Enphase's highest-output residential microinverter in the IQ8 series — purpose-built for the latest generation of high-powered 72-cell and 80-cell solar modules with DC input ratings from 320W to 540W. Each IQ8X independently converts the DC output of a single module into grid-compliant 240 Vac / 60 Hz power, performing per-module MPPT across a 43–60V operating range at up to 97.5% peak efficiency. What fundamentally separates the IQ8 series from all prior microinverter generations — and from competing MLPE platforms — is its grid-forming capability: a purpose-built silicon chip running advanced power electronics firmware that allows each IQ8X to autonomously establish and maintain its own AC voltage and frequency reference, independent of the utility grid. This grid-forming architecture enables the IQ8X to operate in four distinct system configurations ranging from standard grid-tied solar through battery-free Sunlight Backup™ to full whole-home energy independence — and to satisfy NEC 2014 through NEC 2023 §690.12 rapid shutdown requirements as UL-listed rapid shutdown equipment with no additional hardware. Backed by more than one million cumulative hours of power-on validation testing and Enphase's industry-leading 25-year limited warranty (with connected IQ Gateway), the IQ8X represents the most capable and flexible module-level power electronics platform available for residential solar installations.





Four System Configurations
The IQ8X's grid-forming capability enables deployment across four distinct configurations — from a simple grid-tied system to a fully battery-backed home energy independence platform — using the same microinverter hardware in every case.



① Solar Only
Standard grid-tied configuration. IQ8X microinverters convert solar DC to AC and export to the grid and home loads. No IQ System Controller or battery required. Enphase University certification not required for installation.


② Sunlight Backup™ — Battery-Free Backup
During a grid outage, IQ8X microinverters use grid-forming capability to island and continue producing power from solar — without any battery. Requires IQ System Controller 2. Backup power is available as long as sunlight is available, sized up to ~25% of array capacity for stable load support.


③ Home Essentials Backup
Solar plus one or more IQ Batteries (smaller capacity) provides backup power for essential circuits — refrigerator, lighting, internet, phone charging — during outages at night or in low-irradiance conditions. Requires IQ System Controller 2.


④ Full Energy Independence
Solar plus larger IQ Battery capacity for whole-home 24/7 backup — powering all critical and non-critical loads through extended grid outages. No DC-to-DC battery sizing restrictions. Requires IQ System Controller 2. Enphase University certification required to commission.
